Back to Band description
This accessible group offers an interactive mini-tour of twenty Euro-American cultures in an engaging, energetic, and family-friendly manner. All while playing acoustic instruments at as low a volume level as a setting permits.
These skilled players make sure folks connect with the exciting roots music presented. Audience members are encouraged to drum along on the bands percussion. When feasible, folks are led through simple circle and line dances. The entire family, from toddlers to seniors, gets to join in the wholesome fun!
Since 1990 theyve pleased audiences at fests, concerts, corporate events, and private parties in Europe, Canada, and across the U.S.A. Schools and libraries are especially happy to sponsor the Hi-Dukess unique interactive educational program.
The sound of one tune can be very different from the next because the Hi-Dukes are multi-instrumentalists. Jutta Distler plays mandolin, violin, Greek baglama, guitar, and sings. Terran Doehrer plays a Balkan flute, percussion, guitar, ocarina, penny whistle, and sings. Both teach dance. Other instruments that can be added to the core duet are accordion, upright bass, trombone, and percussion. Dance ensemble is available.
The Hi-Dukes come from and play within various ethnic communities: Danish, Jewish, Greek, Hispanic, Irish, and Bulgarian, reflecting American diversity. (Great for 4th of July events!) This band knows how to reach all audiences, regardless of age or background.
