Diverse repertoire
From Eipiros in the north to the islands in the south, this band goes beyond the boundaries of any one specific style, time period, or region. The group’s play list includes selections from the powerful Rembetika, melodic Laïki, enchanting Demotiki, and hypnotic Eipirotikan traditions.
Versatile sound Bouzouki, violin, and doumbeleki can be used on one song, followed by mandolin, guitar, and bouzouki on the next. Second bouzouki, flute, clarinet, accordion, and dauli can be added. Of course, vocals are a must in Greek music, so two- and three-part harmonies are a big part of the group’s color. Band size ranges from a duet to a sextet. Dance instruction and a dance ensemble can also be provided.
Rooted in tradition The group is at home performing for the Greek community. Performances include Chicago’s Taste of Greece Festival on Halsted Street, The Hellenic Museum of Chicago, and the Hellenic Organization of Chicago. Based upon its experience as the house band at Evanston’s Panos Greek Restaurant, it is safe to say the band inspires both Greeks and non-Greeks into dancing in the aisles, exclaiming “Opaa!”
